Every year, thousands of Nigerians require Proof of Fund (POF) for different purposes — from studying abroad, securing immigration visas, to winning business contracts and tenders.
In all these cases, you must provide verifiable financial evidence that you have the required funds. But the process can be stressful, confusing, and time-sensitive.
That's where POF NG comes in. We provide legitimate, verifiable Proof of Fund and investment certificate documents tailored to your specific needs:
Here is a rule that refuses thousands of Nigerian student visa applications, and almost nobody explains it clearly:
For a UK student visa, money can only be in your own name, your parent's name, or your legal guardian's name. Your uncle, aunt, brother, cousin, pastor, or family friend cannot hold your proof of funds — no matter how willing they are.
This is written into the UKVI Student route rules, and it catches Nigerian families constantly, because our real financial life is communal: an uncle abroad funds one child's education, an elder sibling funds another's. UKVI does not care. If the ₦30m sits in your brother's account, your application fails the maintenance requirement.
What the Rule Actually Says
Funds must be held in:
- Your own name (or a joint account you are named on)
- Your parent(s)' name — with your birth certificate proving the relationship AND a signed letter of consent that the funds may be used for your studies
- Your legal guardian's name — with court/legal documents proving guardianship
Anything else — including grandparents in most cases — fails. Official reference: the GOV.UK Student visa money requirements.

If a Parent Sponsors: The Exact Document Set
- Parent's bank statement or letter showing the full amount held for 28 consecutive days (the same 28-day rule with all its traps)
- Your birth certificate (or adoption certificate) naming that parent — NPC-issued; an affidavit of birth is a weak substitute that triggers scrutiny
- Letter of consent signed by the parent confirming the funds are available for your studies
- If the account is in your mother's married name and your birth certificate shows her maiden name — add the marriage certificate
Miss any one of these and the application is refused on documentation, not on money.
"But My Uncle Is Funding Me" — Your Legal Options
The rule limits whose account the money sits in — not where it originally came from. Families handle this legitimately in three ways:

Whether you are applying for studentship, business deals, contracts, student visas, and immigration, we can fund you.
- Transfer to you, then wait. Uncle transfers to your account; the 28-day clock starts after the transfer settles. Document the gift properly — a signed gift letter and clean narration, as covered in our source of funds explanation templates.
- Transfer to your parent, then wait. Same logic when your own account raises profile issues.
- Route it early. The clean version of both options is timing: move the money 2–3 months before applying, so it seasons well past 28 days and doesn't look like parked funds.
What not to do: leave it in the uncle's account with a "sponsorship letter." UKVI student rules make no provision for it. This is different from Canada — where extended-family sponsorship is workable with the right documents — and applicants who mix up the two systems pay for it with a refusal.
Exceptions Worth Knowing
- Official financial sponsors: a government, international scholarship agency, or your university can sponsor you fully or partially — the award letter replaces bank evidence for the covered portion.
- Student loans: a loan letter from a regulated lender in your name is acceptable evidence.
- The 12-month residence exemption: applicants who have been in the UK with valid leave for 12+ months don't need to show maintenance at all.
Refused Because of the Wrong Sponsor? What Now
A financial-documentation refusal is recoverable — the right response to a UK refusal is fixing the defect and reapplying, not appealing. Restructure the funds into an eligible account, run the 28 days cleanly, and reapply with a short cover letter addressing the previous refusal ground.
Get the Structure Right the First Time
The parent rule is unforgiving, but it is completely manageable with planning. POF NG structures UK-compliant proof of funds daily — in the applicant's or parent's name, correct amounts for your city and course, full 28-day seasoning, and the complete document set (consent letters, relationship evidence, bank letters).
